  1. Game Speed:
  2.    If you find that Dirt Bike is running too slowly on 
  3.    your computer, you can try the following:
  4.     - Try selecting a smaller scale in the preferences.
  5.     - Make sure no other applicatons are running.
  6.     - Try setting your display to 16 bit color and 
  7.       then try it with 256 colors.
  8.  
  9. Controlling the Bike:
  10.  
  11.    Shifting:
  12.    Dirt Bike 4.0 defaults to Automatic Transmission.  
  13.    With Automatic Transmission, the computer does the 
  14.    shifting for you.  If you turn off Automatic 
  15.    Transmission, use the following keys to shift:
  16.  
  17.    - upshift  - Right Arrow
  18.    - downshift  - Left Arrow
  19.  
  20.    The current gear is displayed in the status window. 
  21.  
  22. Throttle:
  23.     Throttle is controlled by the LOCATION of your 
  24.     mouse on the screen.
  25.     - Many players become confused, thinking that it is 
  26.       the moving of the mouse which determines throttle. 
  27.     - If the cursor is at the top of the screen, 
  28.       throttle is on full.
  29.     - If the cursor is at the bottom of the screen, 
  30.       brakes are on full. 
  31.     
  32.   You can influence the rotation of the bike in the air 
  33.   with throttle.
  34.     - tilt the bike forward by decreasing the throttle.      
  35.     - tilt the bike backward by increasing the throttle.
  36.    
  37.   NOTE: This effect is a gyration effect, by which 
  38.   changes in momentum of the rear wheel can be used to 
  39.   rotate the bike. Different bikes will have different 
  40.   levels of responsiveness to this effect.

  42. Opponnents:
  43.  
  44.   The blue wheeled bikes are the recorded races of the 
  45.   high score times, or the previous race, depending on 
  46.   the options you select in the menu. Each time a new 
  47.   high score is set, that race will be recorded so 
  48.   others can race against it.

  50.   You can create and delete Opponents by choosing 
  51.   "Edit Players" under the "Edit" menu.
  52.   
  53.   Dirt Bike 4.0 now supports computer controlled bikes.
  54.   You can add as many of these bikes as you want, 
  55.   provided you have enough memory in your computer.  
  56.   The computer controls these bikes exactly as you 
  57.   do...by controlling the throttle and shifting.  
  58.   You can slow down the computer bikes by editing the 
  59.   characteristics of the bike (lower the horsepower, 
  60.   for example).

  62. Head to Head Play:

  64.   Up to three people can play at one time on one 
  65.   computer, or any number can play over a TCP network.  
  66.   Dirt Bike can be played over the internet, but slow 
  67.   internet response times limits reasonable speed play
  68.   to local area networks.

  70. Selecting Tracks and Bikes:

  72.   Two default tracks and two default bikes can be found 
  73.   under the "Game" menu.  Once you have registered, you 
  74.   will be able to create your own tracks and bikes and 
  75.   store them on disk.
